CEO/Director of Player Development
Chris Brazelton, AKA “Coach Braz,” originally from San Bernardino, CA, has 9 years of Division 1 Coaching experience and 3 years of Division 1 playing experience. Coach Braz concluded his playing career at Fresno State University, earning the scholar-athlete award in 2005. Upon graduation from Fresno State in 2006, Brazelton started Collegiate Coaching Summer 2006 at the University of New Orleans. Following a year at UNO, summer 2007 he was hired as an Assistant Coach at the University of California, Riverside. During a five year span at UC Riverside, Coach Braz developed both guards, as well as big men in the BIG WEST Conference. Spring 2012 he was hired as an Assistant Coach at Drake University in the Missouri Valley Conference. Following completion of a year at Drake, Brazelton was hired in Spring 2013 as the Associate Head Coach at San Jose State University. Concluding the 2014-15 season, Brazelton decided it was time to pursue his dream of creating his own company and pouring into the lives of young people around the Bay Area.
Off the basketball court, Braz was recruited to be a part of Pepsi Cola’s college recruitment, business internship program in 2006. He then went on to complete a year of M.A. work at the University of New Orleans, and became an M.A. Strategic Communications Honors Graduate from National University in 2009.
Paul Simpson originally from Oakland, California is an experienced professional, both within business as well as the basketball realm. Paul played at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) from 1997-2000. As a freshman, he was voted Most Improved Player. From 2001-2003, he served as Assistant Coach, responsible for individual player development, recruiting, and operations management. Off the court at UCSC, Paul’s accomplishments included: • Serving as Chapter President of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) • Participating as a member of the Black Men’s Alliance (BMA) • Being an INROADS scholar working for Hitachi Data Systems Paul graduated UCSC with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Management/Economics.
In 2005, he founded SageTel Solutions, which later grew into SageTel International, a boutique international wireless consulting firm. He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of SageTel International, which specializes in mobile network deployments/ managements and valueadded services including location-based services for wireless carriers across the globe. In 2007, Paul was recognized in the Cambridge Who’s Who of Technology for excellence in the wireless industry. That year, he also cofounded WiBlaze India Pvt Ltd, which is a metropolitan internet service provider (ISP) offering WiFi connectivity at affordable prices. In addition, Paul is on the Marin Academy Board of Trustees, and is an active member of both the Marin Academy and UCSC Alumni Associations. Paul’s experiences in both basketball and business allow him to effectively help student athletes achieve success on and off the court.
Coach Foster has been teaching the game of basketball for twenty plus years; having coached a number of Division 1 and NBA players along the way. A graduate of San Francisco State University, Carl is one of the founders of the original Oakland Soldiers AAU organization. Coach Foster is a co-founder of the Oakland Slam and Jam league, and partnered during his early training days with the Attles School of Basketball.
Coach Foster brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to any organization. Currently, Coach Foster also spends his time working with Kaiser Permanente in the sales sector of the organization. Having known Coach Brazelton for over ten years, this relationship has generated significant growth and chemistry within the BMGBall skills academy organization.
Assistant Player Development/Jr Program Director
“Coach Jesse” is a very talented up-and-coming basketball coach. With passion and enthusiasm for teaching the game, Jesse brings strong value to BMG. A local graduate of De Anza Junior College as well as a two year Letterman at Valley Christian High School; playing four years at Valley Christian High School for Coach Steve Cotton.
Coach Jesse was a 3.5gpa student, and achieved an AA in Business Administration. Starting as the Assistant Sports Director at Central Valley YMCA, Coach Jesse has over 6 years of youth basketball teaching and coaching experience. Coach Jesse is developing into a talented young coach and is a valuable asset to the BMG Staff.
Assistant Director of Player Development
Coach Ryan Sheehy, a Wisconsin native and University of Wisconsin Oshkosh graduate, comes to BMG Academy with years of elite level coaching/training experience. Coach Ryan started his career at IMPACT Basketball Academy in Sarasota Fl, training high level high school players and pros. Following a year at IMPACT, Coach Sheehy moved to the Bay Area; focusing on skill development and coaching, as a varsity assistant at Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland, CA. Coach Ryan's efforts led to AAU opportunities with the Oakland Soldiers, Top Flight Elite AAU, and now BMG.
Off the court, Coach Ryan has a B.A. in physical education, and spends a lot of time teaching basketball in the San Jose community. Coach Ryan and Coach Brazelton worked together Summer 2015, developing a strong coaching respect for one-another. Coach Ryan is a high character person with a strong work ethic, and a passion for teaching and coaching.
HS Asst Director of Player Development
Edikan Ekanem AKA "Coach E," is a native of Lagos, Nigeria and a former Collegiate Athlete. Coach E has a great presence, unbelievable passion for teaching, and a strong minded approach to the game!
Edikan has a strong playing background, as a 2008 graduate of Tennyson HS (Hayward, CA), Edikan played Varsity basketball for three years and was very instrumental in the overall programs growth. Following Tennyson HS, he competed at West Valley College for two years, from 2008-2010. Coach E was invited to compete for the Santa Cruz Warriors NBA D-League team, and was a 2012 finalist; additionally competing in the San Francisco Summer Pro-Am league and pursued professional basketball.
With a business marketing background, Edikan went-on to do product data analyst work for Instagram, and started a Men's African clothing line, "Edikan Moses." BMG is honored to have such a talented individual within the organization, and look forward to the joint venture of growth!
Coach Elijah Rodriquez
Coach Elijah comes to BMG from Folsom, CA after a playing career of twelve years and an extensive AAU background. As a former Vista Del Lago HS Varsity player, he participated on local AAU teams in the Sacramento area; Sacramento Yellow Jackets, Highland Hurricanes, and Norcal Predators to name a few. Having a wide range of coaches and coaching styles, he learned a variety of teaching styles and strategies of the game; very applicable to BMG teaching.
Elijah joined BMG coaching staff summer 2017, as a De Anza College Business Administration major, with a 3.5 gpa. Since joining the staff he participated in all BMG Summer Elite camps, and won two 12U tournament Championships; Bay City Tournament and Oakland Team Select Spring Classic.
Outside of Basketball, Coach Elijah enjoys extra curricular activities within the fitness arena. School and family are his top priorities, yet as a Santa Clara resident loves to stay in shape and enjoy friends. He notes his Godfather Todd Purves, a professional basketball coach overseas, as someone he admires due to his passion for the game and life of the phrase that: "there is no substitution for hard work!" We are honored to have Coach Elijah onboard with BMG!
Assistant Coach/Jr Coaching Advisor
Wayne Kumagai aka " Coach Kumi," was born and raised in Silicon Valley. As lead point guard, Wayne helped Monta Vista HS finish with a #1 CCS ranking. Having coached both NJB All-Net for 6 years and San Jose Zebras Asian Club, Coach Kumi has a strong youth basketball coaching background. Wayne has a strong passion for youth, teaching, and helping players get better; characteristics that hold extreme value within the BMG culture.
Professionally Coach Kumi is an Executive Vice President (commercial real estate broker) at Newmark Cornish & Carey real estate. As an active community member, Wayne recently after 5 years, stepped away from being Treasurer and Board member at Redstar Soccer Academy. Coach is an avid golfer and earned a D1 scholarship to San Diego State. Coach Kumi and his wife Ruth, have two kids Kayla ( 15 yr old at Saint Francis High) and Kai (7th grader at Bullis Charter School).
Coach Randy, originally from San Jose CA, is a passionate learner and student of the game. Having played basketball at Del Mar High School, he led the varsity team in points and rebounds, receiving multiple All League Awards. Entering college, an ankle injury shortened his collegiate career shifted his focus towards coaching. Over the last decade, Coach Randy spent two years with the YMCA, a year with Willow Glen NJB All-Net, and five years with AAU program Top Flight Elite, prior to joining the BMG Academy staff.
Professionally Coach Randy works as a Personal Trainer. He enjoys being in a position to help others reach their goals; this translates directly towards his coaching. With his skill set Coach Randy is able to bridge the gap between basketball skills & athletic performance.
In his personal life Coach Randy enjoys a diverse list of activities. The three most notable are BMX bike riding, skateboarding, and working on his cars. We're excited for the positive energy Coach Randy brings to the BMG Family
Robert Passalacqua, aka "Coach P," a bright, young, up-and-coming coach, comes to BMG Academy with 9 years of coaching experience; 4 as an assistant and 5 as a Head Coach at St. Lawrence Middle School and Cupertino Hoops. "Coach P" played locally at WCAL Bellarmine College Preparatory and made the national semi-finals his senior year with the local club NJB team.
A 2017 graduate of San Jose State University, he received a B.A. in English and a minor in Kinesiology.
Outside of BMG, Coach P is a student-teacher at Lincoln HS and will obtain his teaching credential this December 2018. Not only is he a passionate student of the game, but knows and understands how to teach the game extremely well!
